How to show a custom menu to a defined user role only in wordpress

I searched around for the code and ended up patching something together but hey ho it works so here it is! If you are looking to display a particular custom menu in the sidebar to a select role then this is the code to insert

<?php if( current_user_can(‘administrator’) ):?>
<h3>YOUR CHOSEN HEADER</h3><?php wp_nav_menu( array(‘menu’ => ‘YOUR CUSTOM MENU NAME’ )); ?>
<?php endif; ?>

Change ‘administrator to your specified role, your chosen header for your menu title and the title of your custom menu as displayed in the menu section in your wordpress administration area.Thats it!

If you are looking for a sidebar that allows you to add php then I would recommend the enhanced text widget plugin.

I hope this helps and saves you the time I have spent looking for a way to display a custom menu to only defined user roles in your wordpress site.

Skype down again!

Myself along with thousands of tweeters were all hit today by the second skype bug since Microsoft bought the brand. Users around the world were booted off skype and were unable to go online. It shows all of their contacts as offline but the user cannot get online. This is following the recent worldwide crash that affected many users just two weeks ago where all of a sudden they couldn’t boot up skype. This issue was addressed by helpful users by changing the name of the shared.xml file in the app data folder. This time you need to delete the file entirely and restart skype.

This is not good publicity for Microsoft and their lack of information in announcements is not helping matters. Skype has long had its faults but as there has been no serious competitor it has remained the market leader. However without reliability the market is now becomeing more open to a competitor. Whoever it is, good luck to you and please for the love of geeks everywhere allow us to provide seperate statuses for individual contacts!

Blank page on wordpress login page

If like me you have been busy hacking your theme to bits one day and then the next day you come back to find you can’t login, don’t despair. This morning I found I had broken wordpress and all admin pages were blank. Yesterday I had been changing code like a maniac so there was no way I was going to pinpoint the reason for the blank files at the login and admin pages wp-login and wp-admin.

However I found the solution. I had left a line between the php tags in my themes functions.php file. Duh! So if you have also hit this page because of your fuzzy head moment then your welcome, you can go and have a cup of tea now and calm down!

If like me you are constantly battling with cross browser compatibility and you have hit yet another illogical logical rule set out by Internet Explorer you will be most probably tearing your hair out by now. Is Internet explorer stretching the height of your table rows no matter what you do with your css?

Well I found a solution to not being able to define a cell or row height for tables in internet explorer. It is actually really simple. Define your row height in your html or css and change the following line at the top of your html page
